BLUFF
This is one of the most commonly used tactics in Texas Holdem Poker. A bluff is applied when one player tries to represent a hand which is stronger than what he is currently holding. For instance, a player can aggressively bet if he can sense weakness among the other players, even if he is aware that his hand cannot withstand the showdown.
SEMI-BLUFF
This is nearly the same with a bluff. The difference is that the player who tries to make the play has a hand that can improve through the flop, river, and turn. While a player is on a bluff has very less or no chance to win with a hand it has on a showdown, the player on a semi-bluff has a high chance of winning.
SLOW PLAY
This is used when the online poker player has a strong poker hand, but wants to disguise. By playing passive and calling bets earlier, he gives the impression of having a weak hand. As the hand continues to progress, he starts to play aggressively to have more number of chips.
STOP and GO
This is used in Texas Holdem to create confusion to the opponents. By having a strong bet then checking, the player disguises the strength of his hand, making it hard for the opponents to read them.
CHECK-RAISE
Players use this when their hand is strong and they want to extract chips from their opponents. And when it is already their turn to act, they simply check which signifies weakness. Then, their opponents would bet and that is the time for them to increase their bets.
Understanding these poker terms is very important if one wants to succeed at playing online poker games. These terms may be common in Texas Holdem, but they can also be found in the other online poker games.
